Norwegian country singer Heidi Hauge began her career in the late ’90s singing with her husband, Bjørn Arild Hauge. Although music was initially just a hobby for her she turn on to become the best-selling country artists in Scandinavia after releasing numerous of gold records and becoming a major concert attraction.
After landing a deal with Showtime Records, she made her debut with 2000’s Country Time. Over the coming decade, Hauge would maintain a prolific recording schedule, occasionally delivering two albums per year with similarly themed titles like Country Girl (2001), Country Blue (2002), and Country Jewels (2004).
All titles in the Showtime period started with Country, it became her signature.
All Heidi`s Showtime albums sold to Gold in Norway. “Country Girl” was the highlight and sold more than 100,000 copies in Scandinavia. Heidi became popular in Denmark same as Norway. She was also nominated for a CMA award in Nashville in 2003. She also won awards in Poland and Germany during this period, she also reach first place in Germany with “I’m gonna be a country girl again” and “Turn it on, turn it up, Turn me loose “.
Gradually she moved on to the Scana label where she recorded albums like 2005’s “Moving On” and 2007’s “Some Broken Heart”. One could say that the albums that came out after the Showtime period led to weak sales figures measured against previous standards. The songs were mostly not of the same quality as before, and in the end her personal problems led to her ending in 2008. Another reason was that she felt uncomfortable with celebrity life, and to sing in front of a large audience.
There are talks about a new album with former partner from the Showtime period in 2021 with the working title “Country Classics”.
